Unfortunately, many of these products are complete rubbish, and no better than scams. That being said, many are actually quite effective. Therefore, if you’re troubled by flies, then you may want to invest in one of these gadgets. Just note that we’ve ranked this list of fly control products from most to least effective.

Fly control gadgets and products effectiveness

1. Blue light fly zapper

This device basically combines a blue UV light with an electronic grid. As you know, most flying insects are attracted to light. The fly is drawn towards the light, but is shocked by the grid before it can reach it. This is a very popular solution for commercial kitchens.

2. Fly fans

This device mimics the action of shooing away a fly with your hands. It’s constructed from a base that has two strips of plastic attached to the top. Once turned on, these revolve in a circle, and chase away any flies that come nearby. This device is perfect for when you’re eating outside as summer pest control.

3. Glue strips

The idea behind these gadgets are simple. The fly is attracted by a sweetened glue. Once it lands it sticks to the glue and cannot escape, and eventually dies.

4. Rotating fly trap

This device uses rotating blades to trap flies. Bait is placed on the bottom of the trap. This attracts flies who land on the blades, that then suck the fly into the trap. While these gadgets do work, they are not very effective against harmful kitchen pests.

5. Outdoor fly traps

This is essentially a durable plastic bag with a nozzle on top. You fill the bag with water, that attracts the flies. They enter through the nozzle and cannot find their way out again, subsequently dying.

6. LED fly killer

Flies are attracted to LED lights (according to the people who sell these products.) They fly towards them and then get trapped inside this device. Unfortunately, this is nonsense and these products simply do not work.

7. Ultrasonic fly repellents

These devices claim to use ultrasonic frequencies to repel flies. The makers claim that these insects are sensitive to these frequencies. The truth is that no studies have been done to prove these claims and these fly control gadgets are essentially useless.
