When its Christmas, our homes and filled with more than usual amount of food. We go shopping for all sorts of special Christmas food such as sweets, biscuits and puddings, These then sit in your homes for weeks on end, and pests wind up gravitating toward them.
When it comes to food, cooking and cleaning also become an issue. There’s a good chance you’ll be dealing spending a lot of time in your kitchen this Christmas. This is more than likely because you’re cooking a big lunch on Christmas day. It may also be because you’re entertaining friends and family. All of this makes avoiding pests especially difficult.
For example, you may not have time to clean up your kitchen or take the rubbish out as part of your pest plan. This will definitely attract pests. So what steps can you take for avoiding pests this festive season? For starters, be especially careful with food. All Christmas food should be placed under lock and key. Make sure that your cupboards shut tightly and cannot be opened. Things like boxes of chocolates and sweets should also be placed on high shelves and cupboards where pests cannot get at them.
It’s also important to keep your kitchen as clean as possible. Implement a clean as you go system and get an annual pest inspection. Yes, this might be difficult during this time, but it will help to keep pests away.
